June 19, 2012: 2012 Open Access Week Kickoff Webcast

With 1432 participants in 92 countries, the 2011 Open Access Week (OAW) participation grew leaps and bounds from the previous year.

In June, 2012, SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) announced that this year's theme for Open Access Week (October 22 – 28, 2012) is "Set the Default to Open Access".

On June 19th, SPARC launched this year's events with a webcast featuring three speakers who showcased the state of open access in each of their countries. The webcast started with a brief introduction to Open Access Week, followed by presentations by the three speakers.
