KU Libraries Celebrates 10th International Open Access Week

Monday, October 7, 2019

The Shulenburger Office of Scholarly Communication & Copyright is hosting two events for our 10th year of celebrating International Open Access Week. On October 24th we will offer a grad-student lunch and dialogue, and on the evening of October 29th, a screening of a film at Liberty Hall.

The first event is for graduate students: join us for a pizza lunch and dialogue on Thursday, October 24, at 12 p.m. in Watson Library, Room 455. Our program, Open Access for Improving Visibility and Impact, will explore open access concepts and engage in an informal discussion with leading faculty on campus who are advocates for open access. Please RSVP to Kelly Spavin, events and donor relations coordinator, at libevents@ku.edu by Monday, October 21.

The second event, a free screening of Paywall: The Business of Scholarship will be at Liberty Hall on the evening of Oct. 29 at 7pm. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Associate Professor of EEB Amy Burgin, Associate Professor of Communication Studies Jeff Hall, and American Studies PhD Candidate Elizabeth Wilhelm, and Q&A. For more details see our Facebook event page.

We look forward to seeing you and discussing the benefits of open access and the larger systems at play. We are grateful for the support of the Libraries’ Office of Communication and Advancement!
