Fair Access to Science and Technology Research Act (FASTR)
The Fair Access to Science and Technology Research Act (FASTR) was introduced on February 14 in both houses of the US Congress. FASTR stipulates that research financed by certain agencies in the federal government be made freely available to the public no later than 6 months after publication and that the impact of this research be increased by licensing terms that allow for productive reuse. Heather Joseph, executive director of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), shares her insights into this important legislation.
She also mentions a Kansas connection; Representative Kevin Yoder (R-KS) is one of the co-sponsors of the bill in the House.
Read the text of the bill, from the office of Rep. Doyle, one of the sponsors of the legislation.
